Siemens PM340 End Of Life

Affected Products:

Motor Control Cabinets containing Siemens Drive Power Modules with part numbers 6SL3210-1SB11 through 6SL3210-1SE31.

These modules were primarily used in Stage Tech BT-Lite winches and other single-axis drive boxes, as well as some Stage Tech multi-axis control cabinets.

Customers should be aware of the following:

Siemens announced the maturity of the SINAMICS S120 Power Module PM340 blocksize in 2017 and phased out production of these units in October 2019.  Only a very limited inventory of spare parts remains, and the pricing for replacements is exceedingly high.

Customers should contact TAIT via asktait@taittowers.com if they currently have any of the above drives in use, or are unsure if their installation is affected.

Options at this point include:

  • Work with TAIT to design an upgrade to their system using current products.
  • Acquire remaining drives that are still available to hold as spares until the above is implemented, or to cover eventual degradation beyond use of the current drives if no upgrade is desired.
  • Contact TAIT via asktait@taittowers.com to discuss any possible repair of degraded power modules.

    • Depending on the issue, repair by Siemens or a third-party may be possible.  These repairs typically take place internationally, and we are observing very long transit and lead times.
  • Are drop-in replacements available?
    • No, Siemens has not made a drop-in replacement part available.
  • Is TAIT developing an alternative solution?
    • Yes, TAIT has multiple options available to upgrade systems for compatibility with newer components, including options to upgrade front-end control systems to iQ powered by Navigator.
