Maybe we could pull store/restore position offset out too...

Can you use a custom command cue line to place an axis in Sim Mode? I can't test it myself and I know its still less efficient than using the state command but if it works today.....

I think a custom command might work.....I have never tried that, but why wouldn't it. I would like to try to pull Sim mode out of the obscurity of a Custom command

This would be useful for me too.
I just tried to get an Axis into Sim mode using a Custom Cmd and couldn’t get it sadly. There may be a magic Name and Data to use to get it to though - Insert Last didn’t work.

Unfortunately, it is not just a command right now but it is a change to the configuration.  It requires changing the configuration just in case the node accidently gets restarted.  We don't an operator to think an axis is in simulation mode and it actually not since you restarted possibly when they didn't realize.  This way, the node can be rebooted and it will return to simulation mode.  Someone has to turn it off explicitly for it to get out of simulation.

Thanks for that explanation, Jim. It would have been nice, but I get where you're coming from. Could we look at making Sim mode a bit more obvious by default, though?

I think we could make it work as a command and be persistent through reboot.  We just haven't done that.  By obvious, do you mean that you can see more clearly that an axis is in sim mode?  Or do you mean the option to turn on and off more obvious?

I would LOVE to have a command option for Sim mode :)

In my humble opinion we should have a clearer way to see that an axis is in Sim mode. Changing the color of the 'Desciption' part of an axis in the axes monitor on top of showing the "S", maybe? Not sure what the realm of possibility is here.

What you can do as a workaround that works in today's Nav for a 'clearer way to see if an axis is in Sim mode' is to create a rule on the Axis Device so the Condition is [Device: (This), Param: Axis, Preffix: is, Op: In Simulation Mode] then the Action can be a Notification on Activation to change the Device Colour.

I usually copy and paste this rule to every axis I'm working on at the top of the Rule Group as it will be at the top of the hierarchy if you are also doing other device colours via rules.

That is a great workaround I will make this a Nav SOP for me as well. Great idea, cheers!
